What is Geyser?

Minecraft is split into two main editions, Java Edition and Bedrock Edition. Java Edition was created first and is only available on PCs. Bedrock Edition is a version of Minecraft built from the ground up to work on consoles, Windows 10/11, and mobile phones. Typically, Java Edition players and Bedrock Edition players cannot play with each other. This is a problem GeyserMC aims to solve.

GeyserMC is a Minecraft mod and plugin that allows Bedrock edition players to connect to a Java Edition server. It accomplishes this by acting as a translator, taking the data from Bedrock and translating it into data that the Java Edition server can understand.

I see Floodgate come up in many conversations about Geyser. What is

Floodgate?

By default, Geyser uses Mojang’s authentication servers to ensure the player is legitimate. However, one drawback of this method is that you must own both Bedrock Edition and Java Edition.

Floodgate is Geyser’s authentication method, allowing players to join without owning a copy of Java Edition.
