How do I upload an adminlist/banlist to my Factorio server?

Factorio stores a list of of all the players you have made admin using the /promote command, and a list of all the players you have made using the /ban command. You can move this list between servers if you are migrating between providers. Here is how you can do that.

Using Blacksmith’s Portal

  1. Find where the desired server-banlist.json and server-adminlist.json files are located. By default these are located in the root folder of your servers files.
  2. Open the Blacksmith’s Portal
  3. Go to Files and upload both server-banlist.json and server-adminlist.json to the data folder
  4. Restart your server and your server will now use both of those files to pull its admins and banned players

Self-Hosting/Other Providers

  1. Find where the desired server-banlist.json and server-adminlist.json files are located. By default these are located in the root folder of your servers files.
  2. Open your servers files
  3. If your servers startup command does not specify a location for the banlist or adminlist files (using the --serverbanlist or --server-adminlist startup flags), you can place them in the root directory of your server. Otherwise, place them in the directories that those startup flags set
  4. Restart your server and your server will now use both of those files to pull its admins and banned players
